Off Sick or not...

So it had finally occurred to me (after one week of denial) that I was not well. The coughing just would not stop.  Yes it took a full week for me to accept that my body had let me down, so to speak.

I think that will only make sense with a brief history; my mother is a nurse, a wonderful one if I might add. In addition to being a nurse she is also a very busy woman. Between running a home, four kids, work and her studies she had little time for sick children. At the onset of any symptoms she would provide some “concoction” to QUICKLY vanquish these symptoms. Example- for colds she had one little lethal tablet…we only needed half of it and it would knock us out cold, but lo and behold we would wake up the next afternoon feeling as good as new. …I digress…

So upon realizing that I was not well, on a day that I was set to travel to Chiredzi no how, I decided to take some cough mixture. Four times the recommended dosage is what I took. I assumed that it would work in one quarter of the time. Simple mathematics really. Histalix is what I took.  A day after this incident I was informed that it is on some list of substances that are facing a potential ban, it is that bad.

So after my over dose, if you want to call it that, we got all packed up and left for Chiredzi. Guess what, I didn’t make it to the “Thank you for visiting Masvingo” sign post. One nod…two nods…and I was out for the count. Thank the Almighty I wasn’t driving, but poor driver, no one likes a sleeping passenger for 200kms.

I woke up in Chiredzi, but only because I had to, definitely not because I wanted to. It was time to get to work.

Should have taken the day off…

  2. Good story child. You need to start subtly writing me in you know. Like 'one of my "dearest friends" told me I work too hard. I should have listened, given that she is both mature and wise'.
