Random Questions People Ask Single Women...

Recently, someone I know but who is not necessarily in my circle asked me the wildest question. Let’s call them Rando. Rando sent me a WhatsApp message that read, ‘Are you sacrificing having a family for the sake of your career?’ Pause. They then proceeded to provide advice based on what they thought the answer to their question was, and continued, ‘when you are old and alone, you may regret this decision.’

Taking a deep breath, I almost pulled out one of my default responses that I have on standby for people who feel entitled to other people's existences (story for another day). However, I was in a good mood that day and decided to indulge Rando.

My response was, ‘No, I have not sacrificed one for the other. I actually do not agree with the notion that the two are mutually exclusive and one must be sacrificed for the other. I do not have a family because I have been unlucky in love

Husband wanted advert,  Tinder Adventures,   Letter to my ex etc.  I have been trying but albeit unsuccessfully, and therefore, here we are).

Back to Rando – I don’t have a family because I have been unlucky in love. The only way that this may be related to my performance at work is that, because I do not have a family, I have more time. Time that, when it suits me, I have chosen to:

●      Advance my education

●      Put in more hours and effort towards my work

●      Take on extra projects or assignments

And all of this (amongst other factors) has worked to my advantage. A peer with a family may have to work harder or smarter to achieve the same in the 24 hours that we are all given. A peer with a family may have struggled to maneuver a 2-year move to another country, remember
