Drama at the salon
This incident happened about a month ago
when I got my current hairdo done (hairdo done… insert goofy emoticon). I was
getting braided….
The lady next to me was getting braids done
as well, only difference being that hers were micro braids, extremely tiny and time
consuming braids. So to save up on time she had her daughter, probably about
16, pretty little dame, assist the braider.
Another woman, “The Woman” was getting a
set done next to the micro braid lady.
Let me get to the point before all my male
readers vanish on me.
This is what happened.
The set woman says to braids woman: it’s
good that your daughter gets such experience; if she fails her O Levels she can
do a course in hairdressing and maybe work in a salon one day.
She didn’t think that one through did she?….
You don’t want to be sitting in a salon getting your hair done by a hairdresser
in the midst of several other hairdressers while insulting HAIRDRESSERS.
The whole salon just went ballistic. Word
went around so fast every hairdresser stopped doing hair just to have their say
to this woman who thinks people only enter this career because they have failed
in their academics.
“some of us have qualifications that you
can only dream of, we do this because it’s a passion”
“don’t you know that different people have
different gifts, making your “mufushwa” (dried vegetable) hair look good is our
gift”
“she should leave the salon and do her own
hair if she thinks we are inferior”
Some came from the other end just to see
the disrespectful woman…
“which one is she…… ahhh….thats the one…. I
was expecting to see someone better”
The whole episode transpired in Ndebele,
which in my opinion is a more violent language than English.
She wasn’t even given an opportunity to apologise, no one wanted to hear it, no one cared, the
damage had already been done and she had to pay.
Her stylist was nice enough to finish off
her hair after having been advised to DISCONTINUE SERVICES IMMEDIATELY, besides
I doubt she could just let the money go. But I am convinced that she didn’t do
her level best.
Needless to say I don’t think the woman
will ever make such reckless comments again.
