Carol’s Opinion

‘Hi, I need to ask your opinion about a decision I am about to make’, Shamiso said as she sat down on her older sister Carol’s bed.

‘Sure thing, but there are two things I need you to know before we get into it’, Carol responded while closing her laptop and sitting upright.

Shamiso rolled her eyes. Was she about to get a big sister lecture before even telling her story.

‘First of all, whatever your situation is and whatever my opinion is, you need to remember that it is just that, an opinion. It’s an opinion based on my own experiences, fears, prejudices and or preferences. It doesn’t need to be your truth.

Secondly, just remember that human beings tend to subconsciously seek advice from people they know are most likely to agree with the decision they already want to make. There is someone or some people you would never take this discussion to because they wouldn’t tell you what you want to hear and deep down inside your gut you already know what you want to hear. Now that that is out of the way, let’s hear it. What is going on?’

‘Never mind, I already know what I need to do, thank you’, Shamiso said as she got up from the bed.
‘Well that was easy’, Carol chuckled as Shamiso walked out of her room.
