Whats up with my whatsapp
I am a proud survivor of one week without Whatsapp. Yes ladies
and gentleman my Whatsapp was off for an entire seven days and I survived to
tell the tale. It was a bitter sweet experience, ice cream
mixed with glass. So allow me to share with you the ice cream bits and
the cut glass bits that I experienced during the week
ICE CREAM
1.
My battery lasted longer than usual. Usually my
battery requires charging at around 6pm everyday but when my Whatsapp was off
we could last the entire day. So to all those smartphone users who are always
complaining about smart phones with dumb batteries please forgive your batteries
and blame your applications.
2.
I received a lot more phone calls than I normal
do. I know it costs more but most times phones calls mean a lot more than
whatsapp messages. A phone calls also gets the message across much faster than
waiting for someone to be online, waiting for the grey ticks, then waiting to
see the blue ticks and so on and so forth.
3.
Life was a lot quieter. I didn’t constantly need
to have my phone in my hands reading and replying messages or pointlessly
looking at people’s profile pictures. Plus reaching for my phone was not the
first thing I did in the morning, which was quite refreshing.
4.
I rediscovered SMS and forced the recipients of
my messages to do the same as well
CUT GLASS
1.
Because the vast majority has become so reliant
on communicating via Whatsapp, I missed out on a number of important messages
(although I strongly feel that more effort could have been made to convey these
messages using other means of communication)
2.
SMS doesn’t allow me to send and receive images
and videos, I missed those…
Will I turn off my Whatsapp again, most
definitely.
