The feast of Books- The Book Feast
After a long drought
of good books they have decided to avail themselves in droves. Ok, “droves” is
a bit of an exaggeration but they have revealed themselves.
My current read, Nickel and dimed, is the
story of a rich American woman who left her riches and decided to experience to
the life of lowly paid Americans. Their life includes- their lodgings, their
jobs and living solely on what she is paid. She basically decides to join
Americas working poor. The part where I am now she is finding herself frustrated
by the long hours and two jobs she has had to take up in order to feed herself
and pay her exorbitant rentals in dingy houses. She is also annoyed by the lack
of respect that she gets from the bourgeoisies. She is Barbara Ehrenreich.
After this I am moving onto “Don’t listen
to what I have to say”. This is a collection of real stories told by
Zimbabweans across the country and in some in exile. The back cover explains
that this book asks the question: How did a country with so much promise go
wrong? The author of this volume chose to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. The
person who gave it to me (a gentleman who I am beginning to think is in Central
Intelligence) promised me that after I have read this book cover to cover we
will have a discussion about its contents. If and only if he is satisfied by
the outcome of the discussion will he give me another book. One which he has
promised I won’t be able to finish because it will reveal things that are going
on around me that I never conceived could be possible in the land that I come
from…. So he has given me tender meat first and if I can chew and swallow it,
he will give me biltong.
Thereafter we move on to “Finding your
million dollar mate”. This one I got from my older sister from another mother.
I am a bit worried because she gave it to me two weeks after meeting The Mr…
could she be secretly trying to tell me something? Of course not, the meeting
was a success, they got along quite handsomely. Author: Randy Pope a Christian
man.
Last but not least we have “The Audacity of
Hope”by my main man B. This one I will read last because it is my own so there
is no hurry. I thoroughly enjoyed Dreams from my Father and I am hoping that
this one lives up to my high expectationsof the man…. (My main man B is Barack
Obama)…
I have no love for fiction at the moment so
all of the above are non-fiction.
In the event that I do disappear worry not,
it is only because my nose is stuck in one of these books…..
p.s my sincere apologies for the bad
quality pictures.
