Meet Dumisani the drunk

I have decide to first introduce you to Dumi

Dumisani the drunk...

Firstly, get me right lest October Madness be misquoted. I have absolutely nothing against men who drink. If anything I like most of them. I grew up surrounded by them and have a very high tolerance level for drunken men. my problem is with drunk irresponsible men.

My problem with Dumisani is that he puts his booze bill ahead of all other expenses. All other expenses – rent, food, fees, clothes EVERYTHING comes a far second.

Dumisani may get paid his full salary on Friday the 31^st of the month and be broke by Monday the 2^nd of the next month. Not because he made a huge investment or any meaningful purchase. Dumisani has just purchased bottle after bottle of whatever intoxicating substance suits his fancy.

You would think that Dumisani would learn his lesson but you are asking for too much from Dumisani. Dumisani just wants to drink his alcohol at the expense of everyone and everything else, his own family included.

Dumisani may even argue that his salary is too little to make any meaningful contribution to the life of his family and hence he might as well spend it on alcohol.

Dumisani may say that he needs to please the body that works by spending the money that his body earned on alcohol for this body.

Dumisani has a wife, bitter Betty. Bitter Betty has to pick up the slack; work extra harder, borrow from friends or steal money from Dumisani. Whatever it takes to ensure that the family is fed, warm, educated and living comfortably.

I have had firsthand experience with a Dumisani in my life; I have watched him in live and living colour. Drinking bottle after bottle paying no fees, buying no clothes and paying no rent. The Dumisani I met was so bad (or so good at being Dumisani) that he moved around with a bottle of breath freshener. My life’s Dumisani was an alcoholic in denial with a broken family and a tired Bitter Betty who later committed suicide and left two young children.
