Fortune favours the brave - that pretty much sums it up…

This is her story in my words…
Any other year I would not have accepted an invitation to travel 1200km to meet a stranger I had met on Tinder just two weeks prior to the invitation. But I thought to myself:
1.       Being more adventurous is one of my new year’s resolutions. The universe has heeded my call for adventure it would be disrespectful to say no…
2.       I wouldn’t mind an all-expenses-paid trip out of Zimbabwe; an opportunity to take a break from power cuts and dry taps.
3.       More importantly -what if he was the one??? I would hate to be 60, living the rest of my days as a perennial ‘aunty’; the one who never left her father’s compound and is always drunk on gin and tonic at family functions wondering what would have happened if I had just jumped on that flight.

I told a friend about my travel plans to meet the tall, handsome stranger with the Radio DJ voice (yes, you know the voice I am talking about). Being the conservative that she is, her first thought was human trafficking. She could literally see me drugged, lying in an underground dungeon in the Ukraine. Her second thought was of a Twitter thread she had recently read about African women being treated as slaves by their German ‘lovers’. Suffice to say she was not too thrilled about the idea and asked me to promise to send her my location and a picture of his identity card the minute I arrived.

None of that was going to stop me.

Besides how do you even say no to a Radio DJ voice?

24th of January, I handed my ticket to the lady at the airport counter. I felt this urge to tell her why I was travelling. I changed my mind after looking closely at her face, she looked circa 45. She probably had no idea what Tinder was. I saved my energy. ‘Travel safe’, she said.

‘Safety? Not on the menu this weekend. More of risk and romance’ I thought as a nodded and smiled.
An hour later, we were off….

Would he be at the airport waiting for me…?

  1. I'm not sure if he will be at the airport. I just hope the ticket is a two way ticket....
