Because for every hour we spend talking about me, you dedicate 30 minutes discussing all the things I could do better; 20 minutes making fun of me for one reason or another and the last 10 minutes 'correcting' me.

Because I am tired of always being the easy target for a quick joke and a dash of sarcasm.

Because I have heard the issues I discuss with you in confidence going around and coming back to me.

I am gonna love you from a distance for a while,

Because I will show up for you all day, everyday 100+1 % and yet your clock does not have a second for me.

I am gonna love you from a distance for a while,

Because I have opened my ears and my heart to you but you have remained a closed and shut book,

Choosing not to be vulnerable with me but expecting my life to be exposed to you.

I am gonna love you from a distance for a while,

Because it is as if you saved my number as ‘Contact only when I need assistance’.

I am gonna love you from a distance for a while,

Because I choose to preserve my energy for more constructive exploits than being the only one left fighting for our friendship.

I will always love you, because that is the nature of love; but for a little while, I will stand back and love you from a distance,
