My take on terrible female bosses
I am all for feminism and women breaking
through the glass ceiling and making their names in the big league BUT I also
believe in facts and fair situational analysis. Of late I have been zooming in
on women in positions of power. A lot of studies and researches have been
carried out on who makes better bosses men or women??? I have thought long and
hard and observed far and wide and this is what I have come up with….
There truly are some women who make
terrible bosses. The transformation seems to occur soon after they are
appointed into positions of authority.
There I said it and I don’t feel bad about
it because there is some truth to it.
Someone women must be frowning at me but
let me explain. I have noticed that there are two scenarios that drive women to
be bosses from down under.
Scenario 1
There are female bosses who think that in
order for them to be taken seriously they have to become stern (overly stern).
They reason that being understanding and warm will be perceived by subordinates
as signs of weakness. Their conclusion is that being the person they were
before the promotion is not good enough, oblivious to the fact that the
promotion is a vote of confidence in their abilities the way they are.
I have noticed that policewomen are usually
more unreasonable than their male counterparts.
Scenario 2
There is a certain type of subordinate
usually male who drives women to become terrible bosses. He is rude, talks
back, doesn’t follow instructions, questions decision, etc. All the
characteristics of an insubordinate subordinate. This man drives his female
boss to be a person even she doesn’t recognise. He is not like that with the male
superiors, heck no, with those its fist bumps, high fives and laughs all the
way. It’s just the female boss who brings out the worst in him to the extent
that she brings out the worst in herself as a direct response.
As you can see I have been fair in my
assessment; there are female bosses whose The Devil wears Prada persona is a
direct result of their own actions and others who are pushed over the edge by archaic
men who do not understand that patriarchy has no place in the workplace (but that’s
another post for another day).

There I said it and I don’t feel bad about it because there is some truth to it.
