The Bucket list

I recently watched the movie “The Bucket List”. It got me thinking about a number of issues.
The Bucket List

One of them was the ancient Egyptian belief that when one died, they would stand at the gates of heaven and be asked two questions

1.       Did you find Joy in life?
2.       Did you bring joy to others?

The answers to these questions would determine whether you are going to enter the gates of Heaven. The first question is a walk over, it’s obvious, and you know the answer. The second question on the other requires an honest assessment of your demeanor with all the people whose paths you have crossed….. Kind of gets you thinking, doesn’t it.

This movie also made me wonder whether I would want to know when I was going to die. The answer to that one is NO. The thought of an expiration date constantly hanging over my head is quite depressing. The reason I dream the dreams I dream and look forward to a brighter tomorrow is that I believe that I have a tomorrow. If the expectation of a tomorrow was taken away, what would I remain with??

Lastly I have also thought about my own bucket list, in the two days that I have been pondering over this issue, this is what I have come up with.

If I had six months to live and a limitless supply of money, below is what I would do. The list was quite long so you will be limited to ten items.

NB: they are in no specific order

Visit the Eiffel Tower
1.       I would visit France, Paris to be specific.
There I would dine on French cuisine and garb myself in haute couture. I would taste exotic wines and chocolate and find a Frenchman who would serenade me with French poetry.

Thats me, standing at the foot preping for the peak
2.       I would climb mount Everest.
She needs help...
3.       Spend a month doing humanitarian work. I am not sure where but it would have to be a place where particularly children are suffering, probably Somalia.
4.       Make sure we finish our book.
5.       Host a 24 hour party and invite all the people who genuinely make me happy
I still have Obama Fever
6.        Spend a day with Barack Obama (in the absence of his wife), I want to know what made him think he could do it.
O

     7.       Spend a day with Oprah Winfrey, I want her to tell me how she built the ‘’Oprah’’ brand.

8.       Spend a day with President Robert Gabriel Mugabe I have so many questions for him.
The Costa Concordia
9.       Take my mum, dad and brothers on a week long boat cruise. Just us.(Although I would have to pray that it does not sink like the Titanic or the Costa Concordia)
10.   Fill out an organ donor form. When I pass on my vital organs might as well remain useful.
